Who?
In September 2002, Bill Gravell of Try God Ministries was
preaching in Kostroma, Russia. During that time Bill's team
was made aware of tremendous need in a government-run orphanage
located in Nearnata, Russia. This orphanage houses 40 orphans
who live there full time. It also provides for 120 orphans
that come only during the day for school and meals. Some
of these orphans are street kids and others return to apartments
at night.
What?
We have named the orphanage "Nancy's House" in
honor of Nancy Strickland, president of "Unto the Least
of These" Ministries. This organization supports and
cares for children around the world. It was not, however,
prepared at the time to support a new orphanage. Nancy made
us aware of the needs of this orphanage. Because of her
vision and compassion for children, the name "Nancy's
House" was chosen for the orphanage in Nearnata, Russia.
When?
We have made a commitment to send $260.00 per month to support
"Nancy's House" in Nearnata, Russia. Alex Topilin,
the Russian youth/worship pastor who partners with Try God
Ministries to share the gospel in Russia, will be overseeing
the use of funds and also making us aware of special needs.
Our focus is providing for the needs of the 40 full-time
orphans living at "Nancy's House". The monthly
amount of $260 provides 21¢ per child each day. The
government provides 50¢ per child each day. Our additional
support will increase their current provision by 42%.
Why?
When we toured the orphanage we were surprised and heart-broken.
We were surprised at how clean the children were and how
clean they keep their rooms. We were also impressed at how
creative the teachers were in creating toys from trash.
Our hearts were broken when we visited the medical clinic
and discovered that they had no medication to treat even
simple things like lice and scabies. The saddest realization
was watching the children eat lunch and discovering that
they eat the same food every day for every meal. The meal
consists of a slice of hard bread, a bowl of rice and a
cup of hot tea. Upon seeing all of this we purchased medical
supplies, food and twelve pairs of shoes. The United Nations
tells us that each day 27,000 children around the world,
ages birth to 5 years, die from malnutrition. Our goal is
to meet the needs of the children at "Nancy's House"
today so they can one day hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
How can you help?
As many of you know
in the past Try God Ministries has promoted and supported
Compassion International and World Vision. Although each
of these ministries is vital, we believe God is calling
Try God Ministries to concentrate on meeting the needs of
"Nancy's House". You can help us support "Nancy's
House" with a one-time gift or by making monthly contributions.
You can also raise funds for Nancy's House by promoting
the orphanage in your church or Sunday school class.
